From Ireland
The manufacturer and distributor
of medical equipment Hospira
announced a further us$9 million
investment in Costa Rica,
through which it moved here part
of its operations in Ireland.
According to the company, the
aim is to save in costs and to
take advantage of the output
capacity at its facilities at
Global Park, in Heredia.
According to a firm
spokesperson, this will enable
Hospira to expand its product
portfolio from the current 840
to over 1,000 by the end of
2007. In 2000, its range of
products was 130 to 140.
The local production is first
sent to the United States, where
it is subject to a further
sterilization process, before it
is shipped to the leading
markets which, besides de U.S.,
include Europe, China, and
Japan.
The firm now has 2,000 employees
here, and will hire an
additional 200 as a result of
the expansion.
