Socialism Tops Venezuela Agenda
The creation of a socialist
project tops the Venezuelan
policy agenda on Thursday in the
new mandate of President Hugo
Chavez, sworn in for the
2007-2013 period.
The proposal, stated the
statesman, is a socialism
adapted to the Venezuelan
historic conditions, based on
successes and mistakes of the
past, Simon Bolivar s ideas and
principles of autonomous
peoples.
Among Chavez main tasks are the
proposal of a constitutional
reform and the creation of a
united party from the integrated
forces in the Bloc for Change.
As a first step, the president
informed the legislative to
request a "Ley Habilitante" for
a year to give the Executive
Power authority to announce
regulations and boost the
construction of the socialism.
Also on the table is the
nationalization of companies and
strategic services, privatized
under neoliberal doctrines,
especially in communication,
electricity and oil sectors.
