Venezuela-Nicaragua to Sign
Agreements
Venezuelan Ambassador to
Nicaragua Miguel Gomez confirmed
on Monday that Presidents Hugo
Chavez and Daniel Ortega will
sign a comprehensive cooperation
agreement, a day after the
Sandinista leader takes up his
post on Wednesday.
The diplomat told the weekly
Confidential that the agreement
will encompass such sectors as
hydrocarbons, electric power
generation, education, health,
agricultural development, and
housing construction.
According to Gomez, the terms of
the agreement were discussed by
multidisciplinary teams
appointed by both sides in
December, a month after Ortega
won the presidential elections
in Nicaragua.
He explained that the future
cooperation is part of the
Bolivarian Alternative for the
Americas (ALBA), an integration
project fostered by Venezuela,
Cuba, and Bolivia, based on
cooperation, complementation,
and respect to sovereignty.
The Venezuelan ambassador
clarified that the arrival of
ALBA in Nicaragua will not
entail any political influence
on the Central American nation.
