Nicaragua to Give Chavez
Honorary Doctorate
Nicaragua's National Engineering
University (UNI) will award
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
the "Honoris Causa" degree
during his visit to Nicaragua
for the inauguration of
President-elect Daniel Ortega.
The title, granted to Hugo
Chavez in May 2001, will be
delivered to him on January 11,
a day after the ceremony, said
UNI director Diego Muñoz, who
told the media this will take
place in a public ceremony at
the statue of Simon Bolivar
inside the university.
Muñoz explained the title was
awarded to Chavez because he is
"an inspired leader, with the
ideals of Simon Bolivar."
He said Daniel Ortega and his
Cabinet are invited as are the
other heads of State and
notables attending the taking
office ceremony.
So far, 23 foreign personages,
14 of them presidents or heads
of government, have confirmed
their attendance.
