Soccer Chief Stands Down
Walter Niehaus has resigned as
president of the Costa Rican
Football Federation (Fedefutbol).
After just four months in the
role Niehaus tendered his
resignation as he was frustrated
that FIFA rules prevented him
from making changes to the
Federation's Executive
Committee.
The FA's vice-president Miguel
Chacon will temporarily replace
Niehaus.
Niehaus was on the verge of
resigning on November 21 last
year after having a disagreement
with former FA president Hermes
Navarro.
"Walter Niehaus lost in four
months all the work that we did
in seven years," said Navarro.
"He does not have enough
experience to manage a football
board."
During his tenure, Neihaus
appointed Hernan Medford as head
coach of the men's national team
and promoted Jorge Ortega to the
General Secretary's post.
He also hired Juan Diego Quesada
to manage the female national
team.
