Ortega Wants Simple Headquarters
Sandinista Daniel Ortega, who
will be sworn into the Nicaragua
presidency on January 10, will
not occupy the Presidential
Palace but will move government
headquarters to the Olof Palme
Conventions center, it was
announced here.
"Daniel will not use the
Presidential Palace, rather the
Olof Palme will be his working
headquarters and to receive
delegations," announced at a
press conference, Rosario
Murillo, wife of Ortega and
Communications Secretary of the
Sandinista National Liberation
Front (FSLN) as a measure of
austerity due to the high cost
of maintaining the present
governmental headquarters.
Murillo mentioned that Ortega
had thought of converting the
building to a nursery but, at
present, there are no funds
available for this project. In
the meantime, it will be for
ministry offices, representing
more savings for the future
government.
The future First Lady of
Nicaragua informed that the
session of the National Assembly
where the new head of state will
be invested will take place in
the Omar Torrijos Non Aligned
Plaza, next to the Parliament
building.
After addressing the public, the
new president will return to
Omar Torrijos Plaza to receive
the 16 heads of state or
government and other
high-ranking guests who have
confirmed their assistance,
Murillo explained.
