Education Minister Assures Classes Will Start on Schedule, Following Theft of Computers
Some will do anything to avoid going back to school, including stealing computers from the offices of the Ministerio de Educación Pública (MEP) - education ministry - the same computers that was being used this week to maintain information for the school year set to begin on February 7.

Education minister, Leonardo Garnier, announced yesterday that thieves broke into the offices of the MEP's Servicio Civil early Thursday morning and made away with the computer containing information about the selection of teachers that will be working for the MEP.

Police reports say that a group or armed men entered the offices and threatened the security guard, walking directly to the computer that had been used up to until the later hours of Wednesday evening containing information on the 7.000 teachers that will be holding classes in February. The thieves made off with 3 computers.

Minister Garnier said that the theft is very unusual and assures that the teachers list will be prepared in time and classes will start on schedule as planned. No mention was made is the information contained in the computer had been backed up on other media, however, the minister did say that MEP employees have already started to reconstruct the information on other computers.

Other information contained in the stolen computers are teacher salaries.
