El Salvador President Under Fire
El Salvadoran President Antonio
Saca is all dressed up with no
place to go, suggested the
Defense of the Constitution
Forum that considers he has
solved no problem since taking
office.
Forum representative, Jose Maria
Mendez, pointed out that the
inflation of the economy
recently presented by the
president is proof.
A few days ago Saca said this
year will be "historic"
economically because there has
been a boom in agriculture with
an increase of exports and,
above all, because "2006 broke
the cycle of economic growth
lows."
According to analysts, these
figures do not correspond to
reality, and the Salvadorian
Association of Industrialists
has even expressed doubt about a
4.2 percent growth as announced
by the economic cabinet.
At the same time the economist
and vice president of the
Parliament, Roberto Lorenzana
affirmed that the president
adjusts his figures according to
propaganda purposes.
Mendez considers that 2005 is a
year full of social convulsions
marked by an unstoppable wave of
violence because of political
inefficiencies of the
government.
He went on to announce that the
Forum will begin legal
proceedings against him in
February, including his taking
advantage of the post for
political campaign purposes and
against the Anti-Terrorist Law
because it violates
constitutional and individual
rights.
