National Health System On Strike
Monday
If you have a doctor's
appointment or a scheduled visit
to any of the country's public
hospital and clinics operated by
the Caja Costarricense de Seguro
Social (CCSS), be aware that the
national health system will on
strike on Monday, as medical
workers join the march against
the Tratado Libre de Comercio
(TLC).
The strike does not affect
private doctors and medical
facilities,like the CIMA
Hospital and Clinica Biblica,
for example.
The national health system will
join other public sector workers
in their protest against the
free trade agreement with the
United States that has been
called for Monday February 26th,
a day that the unions hope to
paralyze the country.
Joining the public workers are a
number Legislative deputies,
including all 17 of the deputies
of the Partido Acción Cuidadana
(PAC), who is not against a
trade deal, just that the
current one should be
renegotiated, says PAC leader,
Ottón Solís, who lost to Oscar
Arias in the 2206 elections by a
small margin.
The CCSS says it will only
attend to medical emergencies
and dispense medication to those
with chronic illnesses or are in
hospital in delicate condition.
