Guatemala Returns Salvadoran
Bodies
The bodies of the three
Salvadorian deputies from the
Central American Parliament (PARLACEN)
and their driver, murdered in
Guatemala, will be sent home
Wednesday, after a ceremony at
the Air Force facilities.
Eduardo D'abuisson, William
Pichinte, and Jose Ramon
Gonzalez, from the ruling ARENA
(Nationalist Republican
Alliance), and their driver were
killed Monday in the outskirts
of the Guatemalan capital.
Salvadoran Foreign Minister
Francisco Lainez will leave for
that country today to request
the Guatemalan government to
thoroughly investigate the
incident.
The crime has caused huge
commotion in the two countries,
due to the brutality against the
victims, who were first shot
dead and then burned, apparently
to eliminate all evidence,
according to police reports.
The legislators had traveled to
Guatemala to attend a PARLACEN
meeting, but when in the city,
they split up from the caravan
guarding them and never got to
the hotel.
In the meantime, Guatemalan
President Oscar Berger, who
condemned the assassination and
offered his condolences to the
victims relatives, is expected
to analyze the case with his
Salvadorian counterpart, Antonio
Saca, today, in the framework of
a business forum in Mexico.
