Nicaragua Oil Discovery Unconfirmed
It will take at least two months to confirm the existence of oil in a town near the capital, where a US company is carrying out drilling works, an official source stated on Monday.

Energy and Mining Minister Emilio Rapacciolli told local press that neither oil nor gas have been so far extracted in San Bartolo, 37 miles south of Managua.

According to the minister, the US Company Norwood has only informed there are vestiges of crude oil and gas, on the basis of chemical and physical analysis of those extracted samples.

The possible presence of oil in that town was the headline of "La Prensa" daily's Sunday edition, which cited sources linked to the hydrocarbon sector.
