North Pole Winds Cause of Cold
in Costa Rica
Strong winds blowing from the
North Pole have brought a wave
of cold air on Costa Rica, rain
(heavy in some parts) and along
with it mudslides.
Many last night in the Central
Valley were sporting winter
jackets as the cold air could be
sharply felt following a week of
extreme heat. The cold is San
José was felt most in higher
ground areas like Moravia and
Santo Domingo de Heredia.
The winds have brought rain to
the Northern Zone and the
Caribbean coastal areas, causing
a number of mudslides, including
the highway to Limón from San
José.
The Comisión Nacional de
Emergencias (national emergency
commission) has declared a
"green" alert and the Instituto
Meteorologico Nacional (IMN) -
the weatherman - is suggesting
not to put away the winter coat
just yet as the cold winds will
continue for a couple or more
days.
