Costa Rica wins Central American Cup
Costa Rica defeated Panama 4-1 in a penalty shootout after tying 1-1 in regulation, and claimed its sixth Central American Cup in Sunday's final.

Luis Tejada scored for Panama in the 36th minute, and Alonso Solis almost doubled the lead early in the second half when his shot bounced off the post.

Costa Rica drew through Kurt Bernard with five minutes left in regulation.

Walter Centeno, Rolando Fonseca, Carlos Hernandez and Michael Barrantes converted their penalty attempts for Costa Rica, while Felipe Baloy and Victor Herrera failed for Panama, for which only Rolando Escobar connected.

Costa Rica previously won the title in 1991, 1997, 1999, 2003 and 2005.

Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras advanced to the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States in June.
