Bloody Monday Morning!
At the close of this edition, seven people died in three separate traffic accidents in the early hours of Monday morning. At least four victims were involved in an accident between a bus and a taxi in Moravia.

A fifth person was reported to have died in that accident, but could not be confirmed when, according to witnesses, the overnight drizzle left the roads wet and slippery and but could not avoid the taxi when it apparently ran a stop sign.

The accident occurred shortly after 6:00am this morning.

On the Autopista General Cañas, the main road to San José from airport, a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the highway resulted in a collision that totally destroyed both vehicles, trapping one of the drivers as rescue workers had to use hydraulic equipment to pull the body out.

Tránsito officials (traffic police) are scratching their heads as to how a vehicle could get on the wrong way of a divided highway and continue for some time until the accident.

Officials say that nineteen year old
José Ramón González Piedra, drove his vehicle on the wrong side of the highway, headed for Alajuela, about 300 metres from the Colegio Castella, when he slammed head on to a vehicle driven by 31 year old, Edgar Antonio Campos Laguna.

Laguna died on the scene of the accident, while Piedra died later in hospital. Tránsito officials say that Piedra got on the highway in the wrong direction at the Canal 6 exit.

Officials did not confirm nor deny the presence of alcohol.
