Prison Inmate Hides Cell Phone
In Most Unusual Place
Officials of the the La Reforma
prison confiscated a cellular
phone from one of the inmates of
cell block B, who smuggled it in
in the most unusual place.
During an inspection of the
cells, prison officials
discovered that inmate Ruiz was
hiding a cellular telephone, of
all places, in his rectum.
Prison officials say that the
phones are so valuable in the
prison environment that they are
not surprised by the find.
According to the Ministra de
Justicia (Justice Minister)
yesterday's find is part of the
stricter controls that the
prison in Alajuela has been
undergoing since the escape of
eight prisoners last year.
Strict controls are also in
place in other jails and
prisons, added the minister.
Other items confiscated during
inspections are marijuana in the
San Sebastian jail; and, 12
litres of "chicha" at the
women's prison, El Buen Pastor,
since January of this year.
The confiscation of drugs,
illegal liquor and cellular
telephones is something that
prison officials have to deal
with on a regular basis.
However, in the case of Ruiz, it
is the first time that a
cellular phone has been hidden
in a place where the sun doesn't
shine.
Inmate Ruiz was taken to the
Alajuela hospital.
