Gas Hike Approved
Get ready to loosen the purse strings a bit as gasoline prices begin their climb.

Yesterday, the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) approved a price hike request by the Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo (Recope) for an increase of ¢10 colones per litre for super; ¢11 colones per litre for regular; and ¢12 colones per litre for diesel.

Propane gas, which is mainly used in kitchens for cooking, will also increase ¢8 colones per litre. Aviation and Jet A-1 will also jump ¢18 and ¢10 colones respectively.

Recope says the hike is required to meet the rising price of crude oil on international markets due to the severe cold conditions in North America.

The price hike will take effect the day following the publication of the increases in the official government publication, La Gaceta, which must occur within five working days of the approval.

Tne new price for a litre of super gasoline will jump to ¢463 from the current ¢453; regular to ¢436 from ¢425; and diesel to ¢378 from ¢36. Av Gas will go from ¢461 to ¢479 and Jet A-is will go from ¢368 to ¢378. Propane gas will go from ¢255 to ¢263 colones per litre.
