Nicaragua May Go Parliamentary
Rafael Solis, vice president of
the Nicaraguan Supreme Court of
Justice, announced here Monday
that the Nicaraguan political
constitution will be reformed
this year, to give way to a
parliamentary government system,
or at least semi-parliamentary.
Solis said the legislative
commission in charge of studying
the constitutional changes will
be formed after the approval of
the reforms to the General
Budget of the Republic in March
or April.
Solis talked to the local press
after the opening in Managua
Monday of an international event
on constitutional rights. He
stated that if a totally
parliamentary system is not
approved, at least more
faculties would be granted to
the National Assembly.
He said it was important because
changes will be approved in the
first legislature of 2007, and
then in a second legislature in
2008.
At the beginning of the year
with Daniel Ortega as President,
the new legislature agreed to
postpone the application of the
reforms for another 12 months.
