Sexy Costa Rican Model In US Jail And Not in Italy As First Reported
A phone call to the local press cleared up the whereabouts of Costa Rican model, Sonia Barrantes, who recently made headlines of her engagemenent to Cuban-American millionaire Antonio Quiñónez. Barrantes is in a US federal jail and not in Italy, the caller, Orlando Quiñónez said.

The call was made because Orlando was upset over all the press that had been given to his cousin Antonio over his arrest in Miami last month on charges of money laundering, drug trafficking and tax evasion.

Orlando said he made the call because all the news was about his cousin and nothing about Sonia, who was arrested with Antonio and is in federal custody on the same charges.

To make is point clear, Orlando gave the local Spanish daily newspaper Diario Extra the prison number Sonia was assigned - 78339004.

Sonia's family in Costa Rica has been very quiet on the subject, saying initially that the sexy model was in Italy. Karen Barrantes, Sonia's sister, who is a journalist said that she will be visiting her sister in Italy shortly.

The detention of Antonio and Sonia came when US federal agents raided the home of Antonio and confiscated some us$817.000 in cash, a 54 foot boat, a Ferrari sports car. Four others were arrested and authorities are on the trail of some us$42.6 million dollars.

Antonio was being investigated by the DEA since 2004 for selling weight reducing drugs without a prescription. The majority of the sales were by way of the internet and authorities believe Sonia was associated with her boyfriend's business.

Sonia was a participant in Miss Hawaiian Tropic 2004 and although she did not win, her fame shot up, getting television airtime in various local television programs.
