Isla de Coco
Is Healthy
At least 36 endemic species and
an overall inventory of 1,110
species enjoy good health at
La Isla Del Coco (Cocos Island), according to a
team of 14 scientists who
carried out an analysis of
marine life.
The island is located in Costa Rican
territory some 330 miles
from the mainland.
Led by
biologist Jorge Cortes, the team
found several species unknown
until now.
They also confirmed
that the efforts to protect the
national park and its
surroundings are successful.
Cortes pointed out that the data
quoted above is only the
earliest of a vast amount that
they are starting to process.
