Ecuador: Colombia Stopped Aerial
Spraying
Colombia decided to stop
glyphosate aerial spraying in
the areas near to Ecuador
frontier, affirmed here
Ecuadorian Foreign Minister
Maria Fernanda Espinosa
Saturday.
FM highlighted she had a phone
conversation with Colombian FM
Maria Consuelo Araujo, who
ratified aerial spraying was cut
off.
She stressed that such an
attitude constitutes a change
from that country, after
Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry
described as rather unfriendly
aerial spraying renewal in the
area close to national
territory.
FM said she requested Araujo an
in writing official
notification, due to the fact
this is the second time this
kind of spraying is carried out,
despite Ecuador protests and
compromises signed between both
in 2005.
In case Colombia does not
fulfill its compromise, Ecuador
will proceed to demand it in
Haya International Court.
According to scientific,
national and foreign studies,
Ecuador holds that glyphosate,
made in US and used to eradicate
coca leaves, affects people and
animals health and destroys
legal plantations.
