TLC Intimidation Campaign Denounced. As Protest Date Of Feb 27 Set
The Coordinadora Nacional de Lucha contra el Tratado Libre de Comercio (TLC) - the trade group against the  - free trade agreement with the U.S.  denounced a fear campaign against social movement in Costa Rica.

"This action reflects the desperation of the Costa Rican government for fearing political defeat," said Grace Garcia, a representative of the National Conservative Federation.

She said this operation is comparable to the ones carried out by other regimes like the one in Chile led by Augusto Pinochet, who gave the Chilean heritage to transnationals, in corrupted processes.

Union leaders who have chosen the date of February 26 as the start of the protests say the protests will be peacefully but do not discard the presence of terror because of intimidation against the protests.

The fight against the TLC is not just a union issue, as some would have you believe, but rather of all Costa Ricans, assured former legislative deputy, Oscar Santos.

The day of protest is not only to defend farmers, employment, social security, small businesses, but also to renew the rights of the people over the country, explained former Partido Liberación Nacioanl (PLN) presidential candidate Rolanda Araya.
