Gas Hike Coming
Following a series of price
drops, gasoline prices are on
their way up again.
The Refinadora Costarricense de
Petróleo (RECOPE) on Tuesday
made a request for a hike in the
price of diesel and yesterday it
requested a hike for regular.
The requests are in the hands of
the Autoridad Reguladora de los
Servicios Públicos (ARESEP) -
the regulator of public prices
and services - which is expected
to make a decision in the coming
days.
Once approved and published in
the official government
publication, La Gaceta, the
price of a litre of gasoline
will jump from the current ¢425
to ¢436 colones. Diesel will
jump from the current ¢335 to ¢
346 colones per litre.
Gasoline prices dropped from a
high of ¢ 553 colones per litre
of regular last September,
RECOPE citing the warm winter
conditions in the United States
and the low demand for oil
products.
However, RECOPE said the hike
request is now is being blamed
on the severe cold in the north,
pushing up demand for oil
products and its prices.
