DHL Plans Expansion
The international courier company DHL announced yesterday its expansion of operations in Costa Rica. The company said it would be hiring at least 200 more people for this year to meet its expansion goals.

Rodrigo Quiros, manager of DHL Costa Rica, said the market in Costa Rica is growing and the company will be ready to meet the needs locally. "Costa Rica has an enormous potential for growth", said Quiros.

DHL currently has 11 offices in the country, providing local courier services in addition to its international services. Packages and documents can now be sent overnight from various points in the country. Quiros says that the challenge for the company is to exceed the quality of customer service.

Last week the manager of Correos de Costa Rica (national post office) expressed his molestation at the abuse of the postal service by the courier companies, who frequently use Correos to get their packages to their destination instead of using its own people>

DHL's Quiros said he learned of that through the media and does not consider it an abuse.

"We are the most important courier company in the country and though we use our own people in the majority of the deliveries, though it is true that in some cases we use Correos", said Quiros, who added that the contracting of services to third parties is a common practice in the business world.
