Bolivia MAS Pushes Assembly Vote
Bolivia s governing Movement
Towards Socialism (MAS) Friday
announced the proposal to hold
only one referendum to approve
the new Political Constitution
of the State, while the
Constituent Assembly is agreeing
on voting modalities.
According to that initiative,
the texts by 21 working
commissions should be adopted by
absolute majority, leaving room
for the opposition to present a
minority report with two-thirds
support.
The MAS proposal includes
approval by absolute majority
and revision of the polemical
article 70, while the two-thirds
endorsement will be necessary
for details.
According to the project, all
these stages should be achieved
by July 2, and issues without
consensus will be included in a
popular consultation.
The document also establishes
the creation of an accord
commission which, along with
other political forces, will
look for the necessary
agreements to endorse the
articles not approved by
two-thirds.
