Cuban Ambassador in Nicaragua
Decorated
Foreign Minister Samuel Santos
gave Thursday the highest
decoration granted by the
Nicaraguan Foreign Affairs
Ministry to Cuban Charge
D´affaires Manuel Guillot, who
concludes his diplomatic mission
in this country.
The order General Jose Dolores
Estrada, Batalla de San Jacinto,
Gran Cruz degree, was granted to
the Cuban diplomat, in an
agreement signed by President
Daniel Ortega.
During the ceremony celebrated
in the Chancellery and in
presence of Sandinista
Commandant Tomas Borge and the
Diplomatic corps, Santos
highlighted historic ties that
join Nicaragua and Cuba.
Nicaraguan and Cuban peoples,
despite politic changes, have
always maintained a deep
friendship, assured the FM, who
recalled the aid provided by
Cuba in health, education,
culture and sports areas since
1980 to date.
Santos pointed out that Cuban
solidarity even maintained
during the last 16 years of
right-wing governorships, and
despite authorities relegated
relations to Charge D´ affaires
levels.
Once the Frente Sandinista de
Liberacion Nacional (FSLN)
returned to power on January 10,
one of the first measures taken
by Ortega was to take diplomatic
relations to ambassadors rank.
