Nicaragua Allows World Bank
Visit
Pamela Cox, Vice president of
the World Bank for Latin America
and the Caribbean, will arrive
in Nicaragua Thursday to meet
Nicaraguan President Daniel
Ortega and other officials of
the local government, said a
report from this international
financial entity.
Cox will be the first WB high
official arriving in Managua
since Daniel Ortega took office
on January 10.
Cox said she was grateful to the
Sandinista authorities for
having given macro-economic
policies high importance.
The text expressed the WB
commitment to keep supporting
the government of Nicaragua.
The current WB working agenda in
Nicaragua is composed of 13
active projects and a donation
for the environment by the World
Environment Fund for 318 million
dollars, of which there are
still 159 million remaining.
Cox s visit happens at a moment
when President Ortega has
increased his criticism against
international financial
institutions because of the
indiscriminate application of
neoliberal policies in the last
16 years.
Ortega has stated he is ready to
negotiate, particularly with the
International Monetary Fund, a
new economic plan according to
national priorities.
