Spirit Selling Tickets But Does
Not Yet Landing Permit
Spirit Airlines says it has sold
3.000 low priced tickets on its
Costa Rica - Florida service
that is to being in April.
However, the company does not
yet have landing permits in the
country.
Costa Rican aviation officials (CETAC)
say they have yet to receive an
application by the airline.
CETAC takes at least 15 days to
approve a provisional landing
permit, opening the door for
other airlines to present any
opposition to the request.
And opposition is practically
guaranteed. The Asociación de
Lineas Aéreas (airlines
association) has already
publicly criticized publicly the
arrival of the provided of low
cost fares.
Authorities at Aviación Civil
are recommending that people
don't buy tickets until the
airline has obtained permits. In
the event the airline does not
obtain the required lanidng
permits and it does not refund
the tickets, consumers will have
to hope of the assistance of the
Ministerio de Economía and the
Defensoría del Consumidor to
pressure the airline.
