UN to Check Honduras Unnatural
Disappearances
The UN Working Group on
Unnatural Disappearances begins
a three days visit to Honduras
Wednesday, headed to tackle with
this country authorities the
disappearance cases that took
place during the 80´s.
Louise Arbour, form UN, reported
that during that visit, UN
Working Group members will
gather with Honduran government
representatives to begin the
analysis of the unnatural
disappearances in this nation.
NGO Representatives and
relatives of disappeared people
will also meet with the UN
delegation formed by experts
Santiago Corcuera and Darko
Gottlicher.
According to declarations from
human rights office (ODH), more
than 180 Honduran people
disappeared during the
repression that happened in the
80´s.
ODH management specified that
Foreign, Domestic, Security and
Justice, supreme Court, National
Commission for Human Rights
Ministries, as well as
Attorney´s General Office were
contacted by UN experts.
Information from Honduran ODH
pointed out that on November
2006, UN Human Rights Committee
recommended investigating
unnatural disappearance cases
and extrajudicial executions
that happened in national
territory.
