There Is Fidel for Long Time:
Tomas Borge
"There is Fidel Castro for a
long time," assured Nicaraguan
Tomas Borge, the only survivor
of the founders of the National
Sandinista Liberation Front (FSLN)
when he expressed his joy for
the visible recovery of the
Cuban leader.
Borge stated that Fidel Castro
will return to fight other new
battles after being submitted to
an intestinal surgical operation
in July 2006.
He said he saw Fidel smiling, on
his feet, together with his
Venezuelan counterpart Hugo
Chavez Frias, in a video tape
broadcast by the Cuban
television Tuesday.
The Nicaraguan leader took part
in an activity celebrated in the
Managua Mayor Office together
with a group of 41 Nicaraguan
patients who went to Havana
Wednesday to be submitted to
surgical operations on their
eyes, as part of the Operation
Miracle.
This is the 31st flight going to
Havana from Managua, since
Nicaragua started to get the
benefits of the Operation
Miracle, a program fostered by
Cuba and Venezuela to operate 6
million poor Latin Americans in
10 years.
In the case of Nicaragua, there
are 1,500 people who have
recuperated their own vision for
free, and another 600 were
operated in Caracas, as Reverend
Sixto Ulloa, coordinator of the
program in Nicaragua, told
Prensa Latina.
In the activity, the work of
Cuba's chargé d'affaires in
Nicaragua Manuel Guillot, who
concludes his diplomatic mission
in the Central American nation,
after 5 years in his post, was
recognized.
Borge delivered the Cuban
diplomat the Carlos Fonseca
Amador Order, one of the highest
FSLN decorations, by decree
signed by President Daniel
Ortega, and the Nicaraguan
Association of Democratic Mayors
gave Guillot two plaques with
their recognition for his work
and support.
