Nicaragua to Aid Homeless Youth
Nicaragua National Police and
the Family Ministry will aid
homeless youth and children by
finding their parents a job so
they do not send their children
to beg.
Family Minister Glenda Ramirez
said they will target homeless
children at places where there
is drug trafficking and
violence, and not "hide" them in
temporary shelters.
Police Chief, First Commissioner
Aminta Granera said the goal is
to assist the children at risk
of committing crime, victims of
violence and the families.
We target crime by going to its
social roots, doing preventive
work with the family but the
institution lacks critical
resources, assured Granera who
requested official assistance.
International institutions say
70 percent of Nicaraguans live
below the poverty level, so many
parents send their children to
beg to help.
