Costa Living On The Increase
The cost of living in Costa Rica between January and November was pegged at 8.98%, slightly higher that the projected 8% by the Banco Central de Costa Rica (BCCR) - Central Bank.

According to information contained in report revealed Tuesdat by the Instituto de Estadísticas y Censos (INEC), the November index grew 1.24% over October, due mainly to higher prices in basic foods like eggs, tomatoes and beans.

Higher airfares and non-alcoholic beverages contributed to the rise.

INEC says in the report that 292 goods and services comprise the basic consumer basket used to measure the cost of living, which saw 74% of items increase in prices, while only 18% saw a drop.

2006 closed with an inflation rate of 9.42%.

The president of the Central Bank, Francisco de Paula Gutiérrez, acknowledged that the inflation rate will be higher than 8% projected, more likely to be at 9% at the close of the year.
