The love affair Costa Ricans
have with their cell phones is
not an exaggeration. According
to information by the Instituto
Costarricense de Electricidad
(ICE) - the country's monopoly
on telecommunications - the
average cellular phone
subscriber talked for six and
one half hours per month during
2006.
Semana Santa Death Toll: 40
Once again Samana Santa was in
the red, as the unofficial death
toll for Semana Santa is 41,
almost ten more than for the
same period last year. What that
number means is that an average
of five people died a violent
death daily during the eight day
holiday.

Hollinger Inc. announced
today that it has entered into
an agreement to sell all of the
shares of its Costa Rican
subsidiary that controls La
Republica, a newspaper published
in Costa Rica, to SRB CR
Limitada, a Costa Rican
corporation, for us$2 million in
cash.
