Ultralights Crash Near Tárcoles
Residents and visitors to the
coast off Tárcoles got a show
that they won't soon forget, and
neither will the two pilots of
the ultralights, as they slammed
into each other in mid air.
Fortunately, neither of the two
pilots were hurt in the accident
that occurred in Playa Azul,
near where the Tárcoles river
flows into the Pacific ocean.
One ultralight plane was piloted
by a 27 year old Costa Rican man
identified only by his last
name, Montero, and the other
piloted by American, Ferguson
Scott, 50 years of age.
"At first we got the report that
there had people who fell into
the ocean and were dragged by
the currents", said Ricardo
Hernández, paramedic for the
Servicio de Vigilancia Aérea of
the Ministerio de Seguridad
Pública.
Hernández said that one of the
pilots was coming in fast and
tried to land on the beach, but
aborted when he saw there were
too many people, when the pilot
headed out to sea when he
clipped the other ultralight,
hitting a wave that capsized
him. The other ultralight landed
safely in a field nearby.
The paramedic said that both
were attended to by private
doctors in the area and neither
of the pilots required to be
taken to hospital.
