Semana Santa Death Toll: 10
According to the last report by
the Cruz Roja (Red Cross) the
violent death toll for Semana
Santa is at 10.
The report covers the period of
01 April to 10:00am yesterday,
where three people died run over
by a vehicle, three drowned, two
died in a traffic accident when
their vehicle rolled over,
another in a collision and one
death resulting from agression
with a weapon.
The 100 hours have kept
socorristas (rescue workers) of
the Red Cross scurrying,
attending to 16 people suffering
water related accidents and 50
patients who have to be taken to
hospital in delicate condition.
As of Wednesday the Red Cross
intensified its presence on the
roads and in tourist areas,
deploying 158 vehicles and 8
boats in more than 100 posts
along the nation's highways and
beaches.
The intense operation will
continue until Sunday, with the
return home from vacationers.
