Colombian FARC rebels free four
hostages
The Revolutionary Armed Forces
of Colombia (FARC) guerrillas on
Wednesday freed four customs
officials kidnapped early in the
week in southwest Colombia,
official sources said.
The National Taxes and Customs
Department said the guerrillas
freed them unconditionally, but
kept the vehicle they were
driving at the time of the
kidnapping on Monday.
The hostages were handed over to
a humanitarian commission in the
San Pedro Mountains, close to
Tulua municipality, the
department said.
The four customs officials were
identified as Jair Rengifo,
Carlos Alberto Guarin, Nestor
Hernan Tascon and Rogelio
Aguilar.
The FARC, which has been
fighting the Colombian
government since the mid-1960s,
is still holding 58 political,
military and foreign hostages in
an attempt to exchange them for
imprisoned guerrillas.
