PROCOMER, the Foreign Trade Corporation of Costa Rica, will host a special pavilion at this year’s Trade and Investment Convention (TIC), showcasing the Central American country’s products.

Costa Rica is not new to TIC. It has had a presence in TIC since 2003, when its government established PROCOMER’s trade promotion office for Caricom in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

TIC 2007 takes place from May 16-19, 2007 at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya

Over the last four years, the Costa Rican Pavilion at TIC has hosted close to 40 companies.

This year, Costa Rica expects the participation of at least six major manufacturers from different sectors, including food, textiles, printing and chemicals, said Juan Carlos Martínez-Piva, Director, Trinidad and Tobago Office, Foreign Trade Corporation of Costa Rica.

TIC, officials say, provides an effective means of introducing Costa Rica to the region and exploring the business opportunities enhanced by the free trade agreement between Costa Rica and Caricom, said Martínez-Piva, and the convention has served to showcase their companies and products as well as facilitating their introduction to the TT market and to the region.

It has also played a role in bringing Costa Rica closer to the Caribbean business community, it was noted.

He notes that Costa Rica’s economy complements the economies of the region. As a result, trade ties with the Caribbean region have grown steadily. In fact, the Caribbean is more important as a destination for Costa Rican exports than all of South America put together.

At the convention, more than 300 companies will exhibit top-notch goods and services to an audience of decision-makers from the business sector, including hundreds of overseas buyers and distributors.
