IDB Sponsors Greasemobiles To
Costa Rica
The Inter-American Development
Bank is supporting a charity
biofuel car rally from
Washington to Costa Rica.
The IDB is sponsoring Grease
Lightening, one of five teams
that will drive 7.200 kilometres
(4,500 miles) powered by waste
grease from vegetable oil and
biodiesel.
Cars ranging from vintage
Mercedeses, Volkswagens and a
72-seater bus will be filled up
with grease from Hard Rock Cafes
along the rally route.
Organizers say they hope to
raise us$20,000 through the
event, which will be used to
support small-scale biofuel
projects in Central America.
The race kicked off Friday in
Washington from the front of IDB
headquarters, where the grease
mobiles were exhibited before
the rally started.
