FMLN Slams Federal Report
Lawmakers from the Farabundo
Marti National Liberation Front
(FMLN) slammed a report by the
El Salvador government on the
state of public finance.
"It seems like another country,"
FMLN deputies Gerson Martinez,
Humberto Centeno and Salvador
Arias said about the document,
presented by Finance Minister
William Handal.
The three parliamentarians
doubted about the veracity of
the statistics and assessments
on the country s fiscal deficit,
tax evasion and debt, touting an
alleged healthy state of
revenues and expenditures.
The FMLN deputies criticized
Handal for hiding that El
Salvador will pay a sum of
nearly 900 million dollars in
foreign debt this year.
According to the Constitution,
the report must present the
state of accounts, treasury and
public heritage, they added.
The document s incongruence
shows that the administration
does not fight evasion, does not
invest in the people s most
pressing needs, and does not
seek funds to get out of debt,
said the FMLN lawmakers.
