WORLD CUP SOCCER:
Ukraine Trashes Costa Rica
With only 11 days to go before
the opening game of the 2006
World Cup, the Costa Rican
national team was thrashed 4-0
by the Ukraine by fellow World
Cup qualifiers in a friendly on
Sunday.
The Ukraine team scored three
goals before the 1/2 time makr,
from Serhiy Nazarenko, Andriy
Vorobey and Maxym Kalinichenko
killed the match and then
Oleksiy Belyk added another in
the second half for the team
coached by Oleh Blokhin.
Ukraine took control of the game
in the early minutesand never
looked back. The Ticos looked
disorganized and many errors
contributed to the trashing.
This is the second friendly in a
row that the Ticos have lost.
Ukraine plays Italy on Friday in
Lausanne, Switzerland, while
Costa Rica is at the Czech
Republic on Tuesday in its final
prep match.
