Semana Santa Means Higher Prices
Semana Santa (Easter Week) is just around the corner and so are supermarket price increases. However, a price war between the supermarkets may mean lower increases this year than in the past.

Semana Santa which is from April 10 to April 16, although which "unofficially" begins on April 7 and many don't return to work until April 17, is full of traditional meals and festivities, that allow supermarkets to raise prices on certain products like palmito, salmon and ceviche.

Fish products, by tradition, rise up to 30% in the days preceding Semana Santa, according to information compiled by the Instituto Costarricense de Pesca y Acuicultura (INCOPESCA). Though many other products are also affected.

During the coming week we will be keeping you posted on Semana Santa activities and store and bank closings.
