Panama Returning Nica Slush Fund
Nicaraguan Attorney General Alberto Novoa said Panama will return to Nicaragua over 10 million dollars frozen in bank accounts of ex President Arnoldo Aleman.

Novoa said the issue was discussed during the arrangements for the trial beginning Mar 30.

Aleman, now under home arrest serving charges of corruption, fraud and embezzlement during his 1997-2001 government in Nicaragua, is also charged with laundering more than 70 million dollars in Panama.

The illegal operation included creation of 22 questionable public corporations and 62 bank accounts involving several aides, his wife Maria Fernanda Flores and his tax collector Byron Jerez.

Novoa said he will attend the preliminary hearing next week in Panama on Mar 30 and hoped Aleman will be submitted to public trial given the charges.

Meanwhile the Liberal Constitutionalist Party Legislators continue to lobby Aleman´s amnesty in Congress for the Nov 5 Presidential elections.
