Sponsors and Volunteers Needed for the Presidential Ceremony on May 8
Want to make history in Costa Rica and be part of the "traspaso de poderes" - transfer of powers - on May 8? Well, this may be your chance. Read on.

The organizing committee recognizes that the ¢100.000.000 colones (us$200.00) will not be enough to prepare the Estadio Nacional (National Stadium) for the event that will receive Costa Ricans and invited guests and dignitaries from over 100 countries. The State fund just isn't enough to go around.

So, organizers are literally "passing the hat", looking for sponsors that will allow them to make the Estadio presentable.

Paint and painters are needed and especially those willing to volunteer manual labour to fix up the stadium. Lighting and sound systems are also needed, said Alfredo Ortuño, treasurer for the Partido Liberación Nacional (PLN).

Ortuño also said that he had talks with "important" donors, but are still in need of a lot of volunteers and sponsors.

The government budget is ¢100 million colones, but, that is not nearly enough to fix up the stadium and put up (in hotels) guests and diplomats, as well as transporting them and erecting a stage for the event.

The wish of president-elect Oscar Arias is for all Costa Ricans to be able to participate in the event and in living colour.
