Climate to Be Discussed in Costa Rica
The 1st International Conference on Studies of Threats of Sudden Flooding and World Climate Worsening will be held in San José  today, the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) said.

At least 100 experts from 80 countries will attend the meeting sponsored by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and relevant Costa Rican authorities.

Sudden flood caused by heavy rain and great magnitude natural disasters, as well as the ability to react to these disasters through new alliances and technologies are among issues to be discussed, the IMN said.

WMO Secretary General Michel Jarraud told local journalists that the best practices, means and scientific knowledge will also be discussed and exchange in order to create adequate systems to reduce risks and damages.

He recalled that in 2005, the Philippines, Bolivia, Guatemala, Bangladesh, Guyana, China, India, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and some European areas were hit by catastrophic floods.
