Venezuela Decries US Support to
Secession
Venezuela´s Fifth Republic
Movement (MVR) is gathering data
on the involvement of the US
Embassy in a regional separatist
plot.
MVR Spokesman William Lara told
journalists the evidence will be
presented to the Attorney
General"s Office of the Republic
to act accordingly.
He announced that the MVR
regional leadership is expected
to meet on Friday in Maracaibo,
the capital of the western state
of Zulia, with representatives
of political forces and mayors
of the region, where a secession
project was recently denounced.
In his opinion, the plan in the
oil rich state of Zulia is led
by a group with ties to the US
Embassy in Venezuela.
Project details, including
putting up posters in Zulia by
Rumbo Propio organization, a
self-proclaimed rightwing group
promoting a "liberal capitalism"
in the state, were made public
recently.
According to reports, the
proposal of separation has been
structured with a draft
Constitution, including the
replacement of the position of
Governor by a President.
Lara said the objective of the
meeting on Friday is to discuss
and approve a joint action plan
of all the forces supporting
President Chavez, as well as an
anti-secession statement to
confront the US-backed proposal.
