Salvadorians Condemn FTA Burden
Representatives of the
Salvadorian Association of Cable
Operators (ASCAES) has cautioned
that the recently established
free trade agreement with the US
is already affecting 60 national
companies.
According to them,
multinationals such as Televisa
Discovery World and Turner have
refused since the start of March
selling their TV signals
irrespective of deals effective
until 2010.
They also complained that the
Telecommunications Inspection
Office (SIGET) ordered without
any legal ground to stop
broadcasting channels 2, 4, 6
and 12, playing down contracts
signed with the Salvadorian TV
Corporation and Channel 12.
Rolando Garcia, of the ASCAES,
assured transnationals only sold
their broadcast to the AMNET
firm, which Farabundo Marti
National Liberation Front Deputy
Salvador Arias accused of trying
to eliminate small cable
operators, especially those in
far-off places.
Arias demanded multinationals to
conform to deals, and ratified
that demonstrations against FTA
would continue.
