Fujitsu Announces Operations in Costa Rica
As promised by the Coalición de Iniciativas para el Desarrollo (CINDE), the announcement came yesterday that the Fujitsu Corporation will commence operations in Costa Rica next month.

The first phase of operations will be a "call centre" and employ 450 bi-lingual (English/Spanish) employees in 2006.

Steve Kirchoff , executive vice-president of Fujitsu announced the decision at a press conference after meeting with president Abel Pacheco.

Carlos Hidalgo, manager of Fujitsu in Costa Rica, said that the main requirement for those looking for employment with the company is that they are fully bilingual in English and Spanish. The company will offer a competitive salary and benefits package and offer a training program for those selected.

Hidalgo said that each week they will be hiring an average fo 25 new people to meet their need of 450 by the do the year.

Kirchoff added that Costa Rica was chosen because of it's close proximity to its clients in the United States and that it operates on the same time zone and for its educational level, stable government. "from a North American's standpoint, the way Costa Ricans speak English is comfortable for them", said Kirchoff.

Costa Rica is now home to about 40 companies that provide "call centres" for their customers in the U.S. and according to Alberto Trejos, president of the Coalición de Iniciativas para el Desarrollo (CINDE) , "there is potential for more".

Fujitsu is a leading provider of customer-focused information technology and communications solutions for the global marketplace, employing 150.000 people in 70 countries and has a gross income that is double the Costa Rican economy.

Located in Tokyo,  Fujitsu is the world's third-largest IT services provider and Japan's market leader and together with Siemens Computers are among the world's top five providers of servers and PCs.  Fujitsu innovations have garnered over 32,000 patents.
