Teaching 200,000 Bolivians to Read
The literacy campaign launched by the Bolivian government will benefit 200,000 citizens during its first stage, according to Education Minister Félix Patzi.

The first stage will begin on March 20, after the conclusion of a pilot program launched throughout the country last Wednesday and scheduled to conclude on April 30, the minister added.

He pointed out that 200,000 people will learn how to write and read in 40 days, thanks to a campaign using the Cuban method "Yo Sí Puedo" (Yes I Can), which has successfully been implemented in Venezuelan and other countries, and has been adjusted to Bolivia´s conditions.

Highlighting the importance of the program, Patzi said that four national and 18 departmental coordinators are working to boost the literacy campaign, which is scheduled to conclude in September 2007.
