Bomb
Threats Evacuated San José
Airport
Authorities at the Aeropuerto
Internacional Juan Santamaría in
San José took the threats
against the airport terminal
seriously yesterday when a
caller warned of the existence
of a bomb. This was the second
such call in a week. The first
call came on Thursday the week
earlier and then again yesterday
morning.
Like the first call, yesterday
morning, around 10am, police
closed off the airport terminal
for a full inspection of the
terminal to determine the
existence of a bomb. The K-9
squad was called in to help in
the search.
In both instances police came up
empty handed following receiving
a phone call of a bomb. In both
cases it was a false alert, but
it doesn't mean that airport
authorities don't take such
calls seriously.
Police are concerned that the
airport is not the only public
building being "toyed" with by
persons unknown.
Last week a caller caused the
evacuation of the Instituto
Nacional de Seguros, (INS) known
as the Prestaciones Sanitarias,
located in La Uruca.
According to information by the
Esteban Ramos, chief of the
Ingeniería en Prevención del
Cuerpo de Bomberos del INS, 102
people that were being
hospitalized at the centre and
another thousand that were
working in the building or
outpatients, were evacuated from
the building.
As in the case of the INS
building, the airport terminal
was completely searched and no
bomb was found.
