El Salvador FMLN Starts Anti-CAFTA Actions
The Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) said it will appeal the national laws adjusted to the terms of the US-devised free trade agreement (CAFTA-DR).

FMLN Leader Salvador Sanchez Ceren said as a first action, the party will appeal to the Supreme Court to annul the accord, but to guarantee nullification will require winning 43 seats in the next legislative elections.

On the protests that social organizations will begin Wednesday, the date CAFTA-DR goes into effect, Sanchez Ceren pointed out the people's right to protest an accord about which they were not consulted.

He blamed the governing Alianza Republicana Nacional (ARENA) and other parties for accepting such terms and denied claims of "FMLN manipulation" of the protests for electoral ends.

The FMLN leader added that his party has made its actions public and are simply defending the rights of the people.
