Guatemalans Recall Missing People
Humanitarian movements summoned a march in this capital Wednesday to pay tribute to the victims of repressive practices, on occasion of the Day of Forced Disappearances in Guatemala.

The demonstration begins at the former headquarters of the National Union of Workers, where several unionists, leaders, and social activists were detained and disappeared on June 21, 1980, and concludes in front of the Presidential Palace.

According to the GAM (Mutual Support Association), an organization grouping relatives of war victims, a total of 45,000 forced disappearances were registered only between 1986 and 1993.

GAM has urged Congress to approve a resolution to promote the endorsement of the World Treaty against Forced Disappearances during its coming session.
